Submit To God

Proverbs 3:5-7

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.

The promise is that He will guide your steps, as stated in verse 6, yet its fulfillment depends on our submission to the Lord. We must completely trust on Him and submit to Him in all that we do. That requires complete surrender to Him.

The word "trust" actually means "to lie defenseless, facedown," and it brings up images of servants eagerly awaiting orders from their masters or wounded soldiers submitting to a conquering general.

The risk, of course, is that we rely too much on our intellect and fail to discern God's will. This warning does not advocate for God's children to shut off their intellect and disregard their reason and common sense. It merely serves as a reminder to not rely solely on our own judgment or that of others.

Verse 7 states that we are headed for trouble when we "become wise in our own eyes."

Will you trust God and ask for his guidance?
